54 POWs Who Never Returned Back From Pakistan

But still, none of them returned back to their motherland, though many reports arrived time to time ensuring there presence in Pakistan. Last year after the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan, Punjab’s CM Capt. Amrinder Singh raised the issue of POW. But still, Pakistan refused the capture of the 54 Indian soldiers. Pakistan never admitted their presence in Pakistan, instead, India released nearly 1,00,00 Pakistani POW’s in 1971. Relatives of 15 POWs reached every Prime Minister of India since 1971 war, from Indira Gandhi to Narendra Modi; but there was no positive news.   BACKGROUND: Flight Lieutenant Vijay Vasant Tambay's aircraft was shot down on December 5, 1971 over West Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Officially recorded by the Indian Air Force as killed in action, Flt Lt Tambay is believed to have been one of the five pilots reported by Pakistan Observer to have been captured alive on 5 December 1971. Although a number of reports from eye witnesses have subsequently suggested that Flt Lt Tambay was indeed captured alive, he was not repatriated at the end of the war.      STORY Damayanti Tambay was married to Flt lt VV Tambay a year before the 1971 war. She believes he is still languishing in some jail across the border. Her one wish?
